Mexico
overwhelms Guadeloupe
TIJUANA, Mexico, July 5, 2010 – Hosts Mexico subdued Guadeloupe
in consecutive sets (25-6, 25-11, 25-8) in the last match of day
one of the NORCECA Women’s Junior Continental Championship. The
home girls completely dominated their opponents in all facets of
the game to take the victory in the Pool C contest.
Mexican Andrea Rangel hammered 20 points and Xitlali Herrera
contributed 13 points to the win. Guadeloupeans Alisee Rival and
Yannick Ferbac each recorded 7 points for the defeated side.
“It is the start of the competition against a young team without
experience like Guadeloupe,” Mexican Coach Alfredo Bernal said.
“It was important to get a good advantage in the score for the
crossed matches in quarterfinals. I am sure we are going to have
a good tournament.”
“We started a little slow but the first match is a good one to
catch the rhythm of the competition,” Mexican Captain Karla
Sainz said.
Guadeloupean Coach Jean-Louis Delag commented: “I think my girls
can play better than they showed and we hope to play better
tomorrow against El Salvador. The important thing for us is not
to win but to play good and get experience.”
